Below is the full text of the Desiderata poater that Berie Carr had on her wall. The little-known poem gained political popularity in 1971 but the spoof Deteriorata which appeared in California in 1972 proved even more successful. The two poems sum up the American genius for earnest morality and simultaneous wisecracking.
